Possibly the Last Good Paddling Day of the Year

Today turned out to be sunny and relatively warm out.  Since our afternoon was free we decided to take advantage of what might possibly be the last good day for paddling this year.  We took a couple boards down to the river and paddled upstream for a while before turning around and heading back.  The current is starting to pick up already so it was a bit more of a workout than we expected.

Corvallis Fall Festival

We set up a booth and spent this weekend at the Corvallis Fall Festival with our boards.  We had a great time talking with everyone.  The first day was warm and sunny but the second day was cold and rainy.  We were one of the only artists not worried about our art getting wet.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding - Waldo Lake

We took a couple boards to Waldo Lake today.  We paddled around in the amazingly clear water and explored a few of the islands.  There are three launching areas to choose from, we prefer North Waldo.  There are islands close by that shelter it so the water is always calm.  It's best to get there earlier in the day before the wind picks up.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding - Corvallis to Albany

Completed a 12 mile paddle from Corvallis to Albany along the Willamette River today.  It's a great time of year to do this paddle because the current and depth of the river aren't bad.  It took just under three hours to make it from the water front area by the bridge in Corvallis to Bryant Park in Albany.

Here's a map of where the river led us along our paddle from Corvallis to Albany.

We didn't start our paddle until the afternoon so we made it to our destination in the evening, just as the sun was getting lower and it was starting to cool off.

Two Days of Stand Up Paddle Boarding

We spent the weekend with friends and family at Fern Ridge sailing and paddling.  We anchored out our boat, rafted up with friends, and relaxed and barbecued while listening to the live band playing nearby.  Of course we brought along an SUP board for everyone to play with.

We had some occasional visitors while out paddling the lake...

These guys would swim up to the surface and come in for a closer look at us before finally swimming away.

We also had visitors flying around above hoping for food.

Bodyboarding

We took our daughter to do some bodyboarding today... there weren't any waves in sight but she didn't seem to care.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding - Fern Ridge Reservoir

We took a couple boards down to Fern Ridge Reservoir.  We had a great time stand up paddle boarding even though the lake was more crowded than usual.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding - Willamette River

Today was really hot so we decided to take one of our new board designs out to the Willamette River for a test ride... and it was a good excuse to cool off.  The new board design turned out great, it was very stable even in the strong Willamette current, so we will be making  more soon.

Promotional Board

This board will be will be leaving for it's new home in Hawaii very soon.  We're sad to see it go... and possibly a little jealous that it's going without us.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding - Alsea River, Oregon

We took the stand up paddleboards out on the Alsea River today in the Waldport area.  It was a very nice scenic paddle with a mild current.  Because we were close to where the river meets the Ocean the current changed direction depending on the tides.  If you time it right that can work in your favor.  The only downside is that water temperatures are on the chilly side year round.  We would definitely recommend the Alsea River as a destination for SUP users to visit.  If you are interested check out any of the marinas in the Waldport area that have launching facilities.  A word of caution... if you venture into the Alsea Bay there can be fierce currents during tide change so be safe.

Don't forget... we also have our own organic board wax

We've taken the time to research and track down packaging that is biodegradable and suitable for home composting.
